ASG Sounds better

All but two
songs co-written
by Donna, one of
the others by
Brenda Russell.
When I met Donna Summer
(14 April 1995) in Tahoe, she kindly autographed one of my copies of her classic All Systems Go

Although tired after an exciting, energetic performance, she couldn't have been more gracious to her fans.

"Only the Fool Survives" off All Systems Go, a delightful duet in Donna's repertoire.
Only the Fool Survives

What a thrill (for me, gt).
The singer-composer merits an exclusive major site but, given the eclectic nature of GT House, I am devoting this area and links to Donna.

The Woman In Me
Donna Summer is a legitimate star, an icon. Unlike some celebrities, it is not hype. Just talent, energy and heart. Whether she's portraying Urkel's Aunt Oona from Altoona or singing for a live audience, you can tell that she's for real.

Because of my devotion to Donna, I've redone the graphics.
Thanks Mr C.

One of the best songs from the session, "Sometimes Like Butterflies," never even made it on an album.  Album

When the pinheads at Geffin refused to release the two-record Rainbow album, she was paired with Quincy Jones for her self-titled album.  Listen to Donna rise above the over-production, especially on Bruce Springsteen's "Protection."

Hard for the Money
In focusing on Donna's later exploration of different genres, I am not denying her Disco accomplishments. I love that music. Sure it was formulaic. Yet in retrospect, songs like "Hot Stuff" or "On The Radio" have a lot more to say and are far more musical than much of today's automated drek consisting of a beat, borrowed melodies, punctuated by tawking, foisted upon us by tasteless radio and CD conglomerates.

In Another Place & Time
What a voice!
Christmas Spirit
  Christmas Spirit
No, not Harvey's Bristol Cream, but worth playing any time. Even Summer. A mix of traditional songs and three co-written originals. At some point, every singer does a holiday album. This has lots of heart.

I've listened to this album well over a hundred times, so whom are you going to believe when I say it's great — me or A&W, who seem to equate commercial success with quality?

I wish there were an extended version of "There Goes My Baby" and that A&W would stick to making condiments and leave the reviewing to those with taste.
