BLOOM is Tasmin Archer's second album. Work on this record commenced in March 1994 with the writing of the songs at home in Leeds, England. After recording a few demos at home, Mitchell Froom was approached in the summer of 1994 and asked if he would be interested in producing the record. Thankfully, the answer was yes and, after completing the bulk of the writing, pre-production commenced at Nomis Studios in November 1994. This involved two weeks of Mitchell, Tasmin and John Hughes trying out different arrangements to see which worked best for each song. Towards the end of the two week period the other three musicians who were to be principally involved, Steve Donnelly, Bruce Thomas, and Pete Thomas, were introduced to the songs. Recording of this material and a few 'B-Sides' took place at Real World Studios in Bath from mid December 1994 to early January 1995 with a break for Christmas and New Year. Mitchells long time collaborator Tchad Blake recorded the sessions. Each song was recorded as a band performance recording several takes until the definitive version was down. Minor 'fixes' were made by each individual, as required, and Tasmin's vocal track was repaired where necessary. The string quartet (Electra Strings) was overdubbed later in one session. During February and March 1995 Tasmin and John returned home to complete the writing for the album. Two songs were chosen from this bunch and these were recorded during the first week of May 1995 at Sunset Sound Factory in L.A. These two songs were Sweet Little Truth and I Like it So. The album was mixed in the following two weeks and was mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering in Portland, Maine on June 8th 1995. The album was released in the U.K. on March 25th 1996 some ten months after it's completion.
